July 29, 1926

A representative from headquarters of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan spoke on the street corner in Annandale last Thursday evening. The speech was one of stirring Americanism, and the speaker was not antagonistic in his remarks, but held firmly to the principals, ideals and traditions of our forefathers, which must be maintained if America shall not perish from this earth. Many who had never heard the Klan talk before praised the organization very highly. It is regretted that a disturbance took place in which a few individuals vainly attempted to disrupt the meeting.

Deputy Fire Marshal Kent visited Annandale recently and with Fire Chief E.E. Sykes made an inspection of the town in general. He was very much pleased with the cleanliness of our streets, alleys, business and residential properties and found no fire hazards. He did, however, mark his disapproval of the fire department’s equipment in comparison other towns the size of Annandale.

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Rowlands, daughter Helen and Mr. Stranahan met with an accident at the Dykeman Corner Sunday. Mr. Rowlands was trying to avoid hitting another car when he lost control of his car, which ran off the road and overturned. Miss Helen suffered a broken collar bone, and the others suffered cuts and bruises. After they were cared for they continued their journey to Minneapolis. They had been enjoying a vacation at a cottage at Glendale on Clearwater Lake.

July 25, 1946

The Red and White Store was observing its first anniversary of business in Annandale. In 1945, Homer McAlpin opened his meat and grocery here, and said he hadn’t been sorry since.

The youth at St.John’s Lutheran Church were to be hosts at Knapp, French Lake and Albion Youth this Friday night.

Andrew Jensen of the Midland Co-op Association spoke at a co-operative educational meeting at West Albion, Thursday. The topic of his talk was "Labor Unions and the Farmer." Movies were also shown, The meeting was held in the community hall. It started at 8 p.m. and there was free ice cream. All the children under the age of 12 had to be accompanied by adults.

July 25, 1963

Copies of the session laws passed by the 1963 Minnesota Legislature were available at the Advocate office. This is important distribution was made by all the newspapers across Minnesota.

The Clearwater Lake Golf Course held its annual Invitational tournament, July 21, 1963. Thirty-three golfers participated in the tournament, an increase over the number in the 1962 invitational. The tournament consisted of the 27 holes, match play, except for the championship flight. Prizes and trophies were given for the winners of each flight. Dayton Barkley, Jr., owned the championship flight with a 107. Runners-up were Skip Thayer and Pete Lano with 109 and 110 respectively. First flight winner was Paul Ebner. Second Flight winner was Dayton Barkley Sr. Ray Rasmussen of North Minneapolis took the trophy for third flight.

July 29, 1992

On July 29 the Annandale school district announced its new superintendent as Steve Niklaus. Niklaus took over the formerly held position by Verle Conner who resigned earlier that May to take a similar position in Elk Point, S.D.

The Annandale Beautification Project completed another project. The then Fina station, owned by Western Petroleum, had been closed for 10 years.But it had recently been the target by Sonja Roller and her beautification committee volunteers to get cleaned up for a better looking city.

Mary Ann and Elvin Fieldseth reached 24 years of volunteer work at the Silver Creek demolition derby. All six of their kids had raced in the derby as well. Mary Ann and Elvin celebrated by volunteering yet again, and enjoying the festivities of the 1992 derby race.

July 25, 2007

On July 19, 2007 Zachary A. Karcher-Ramos, a 17-year-old Maple Lake youth, was rescued by first responders from the local swimming hole in Fair Haven known as the Mill County Park.

According to the Chief Deputy at the time, Joe Hagerty, the boy jumped off of a rope swing that was located near an incline from the Clearwater river. Karcher-Ramos "landed in the water and went under for three-four minutes before being pulled out by bystanders," said chief Hagerty. The boy was in serious condition at the St. Cloud Hospital.

A man described as 5 feet, 9 inches tall, black hair, and weighing around 200 pounds was reported robbing Coady’s Liquors on July 16, around 8:30 p.m. Annandale Police Chief Jeff Herr said that the police department was going to be meeting with other local police departments to discuss the possible connections through simular robberies in those areas. A sketch was released of the alleged robber in hopes to spark any new information from the surrounding communities.

The Annandale Middle School Peer Leaders group headed up the annual Pennies for Patients drive on behalf of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The students placed collection cans in every class room in the weeks before school let out, then brought their donations to the bank to turn them into bills before sending the money to the society.

Some students involved in the group at the time were Danielle Peery, Jared Chaplin, Kelsey Miller, Gabrielle Rheaume, Haley Tallman and Tyler Erhard.
