Community calendar

■ The Wright County Historical Society’s 11th annual Festival of Trees display at the Wright County Heritage Center, 2001 Highway 25 N., Buffalo, is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday through Friday, Jan. 6. It is also open until 8 p.m. Tuesdays, and from 5 to 7 p.m. Sundays. The display is free, and features dozens of trees, a Santa writing station, animated characters and an electric train display.

■ The exhibit, ’51 Percent Swedish,’ an artistic document about the need for adaption and longing for roots, is showing at the Dassel History Center and Ergot Museum, 901 1st St. The exhibit runs through Thursday, Jan. 4.

■ The annual New Year’s Eve Family Event at Powder Ridge, 15015 93rd Ave., Kimball, will be Sunday, Dec. 31, Tubing runs until 8 p.m. and skiing until 9 p.m., followed by a torchlight parade and fireworks on the hill., along with music, movies, bonfires and smores.

■ A Times Square-style lighted New Year’s Eve Ball Drop is at 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31 at the Clock Tower Park in downtown Annandale. Gather at 8:45 p.m. and welcome in the New Year with Father Time and Baby New Year photo opportunities, music and noisemakers. See the ad and the story in this issue.

■ Monday, Jan. 1, is New Year’s Day. Government offices and many businesses are closed.

■ The Annandale Area History Club will not meet during the month of January, due to the first Monday in January falling on New Year’s Day. The club’s next meeting will be the first Monday in February, Feb. 5.

■ Classes resume in Annandale School District on Tuesday, Jan. 2.

■ A potluck supper is at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, at Minnesota Pioneer Park, 725 Pioneer Park Trail. The public is welcome.

■ The Annandale Improvement Club meets at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Guest speaker Elizabeth Cabalka will discuss yoga and more. Lunch is catered by Cottage Gourmets. The public is invited. Reservations are required, whether staying for lunch or coming for the program, and should be made by noon Monday, Jan. 1 with Judi at 274-5987.

■ A 60-plus and Healthy clinic from Wright County Public Health stops at City Hall in Annandale from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16. Education materials on a variety of subjects offered. There is a fee for foot care. For more information, call 763-682-7456.

■ Wright County Public Health brings its Wellness on Wheels program to the council chambers room of Annandale City Hall from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18. Nurses provide immunizations and other services, including: screening for blood pressure; fasting Lipid panel cholesterol; fasting glucose; non-fasting Hemoglobin A1C; pregnancy; hemoglobin; tuberculosis; and general health and resource information.
