Next the lightning gave up a technical fall and another forfeit, but then Ben Schuldt and Adam Neumann picked up big pins to put ANML up by one.

"Last season the Lightning dropped a close dual with Becker in December only to avenge that loss in the Section 6AA meet," Youngs said.

Once again the two teams are meeting in December in the tournament semi-final.

The first match saw Mitch Koss win at 106. His match went into overtime, where he won the match with a dramatic takedown.

Noah Gindele, wrestling at 113, won the second match in a 8-5 decision. It was Gindele’s first ever varsity win.

Jed Wester, wrestling at 126, pinned his opponent making the score 12-6. Becker followed, wining four in a row.

"In one of the highlights of the night ANML’s Adam Neumann won a match 13-0 against an opponent who had beaten him twice last season," Youngs said.

After the Neumann win, the Lightning dropped two in a row at 170 and 182.

The Lightning won two of the final three weights.

Linus Brown won an evenly contested match 2-0 at 195.

"At 220 pounds, Kessler Kenning wrestled extremely well dropping a 7-2 match to one of the top 220 pound wrestlers in the section," Youngs said. "Kessler is only in his second year of wrestling and he battled that kid very well.

"With a little more confidence he will start to win matches like that."

Cole Patch won the final match of the dual, racking up enough points to win by technical fall and then pinning his 285 pound opponent.

Youngs sees Becker as a final four-type team in Section 6AA.

"When we get our three starters back from injury and get everyone down to weight it should be a completely different dual if we meet them again."

Red River Valley 43

ANML 18

106: Mitch Koss loss, 203

113: Noah Gindele loss, 4-9

120: Zayne Brown win, fall

126: Jed Wester win, fall

132: Double forfeit

138: Riley Hall loss, fall

145: Forfeit loss, forfeit

152: Ben Schuldt loss, fall

160: Adam Neumann loss, 6-11

170: Logan Arnold win, fall

182: Alex Klatt loss, fall

195: Daniel Luna loss, fall

220: Kessler Kenning loss, fall

285: Cole Patch loss, fall

The Lightning then moved on to the third place match.

"In our final match we had a letdown and under performed after wrestling really well in the first two duals," Youngs said.

The Lightning started out the dual with two losses at 106 and 113. Zayne Brown at 120 won by a fall over his opponent and so did Jed Wester score a pin.

"Zayne got aggressive and despite giving up the first takedown got a look in his eyes that showed he wasn’t going to quit and came back to pin his opponent," Youngs said. "Jed picked up his third pin of the night showing he is a force to be reckoned with."

The rest of the dual saw only Logan Arnold picking up a win, pinning his opponent at 170.

"Other than that Red River Valley proved too much for the Lightning," Youngs said. "Not every match will go our way, and we need to forget about that one and move on.

"We are seeing some really good things but we also need to work on a lot of basics."

Youngs pointed out that his wrestlers are doing some things well in the practice room, but it does not always transition to the matches.

"We need to stay loose and not be closed and worried about results," Youngs said.
