The annual picnic of the Farmers Union locales of the county was held in Annandale last Thursday. The crowd began to gather quite early in the day and prospects for a "best ever" picnic were good. The rain during the afternoon dampened the enthusiasm somewhat, but after the shower the good time went on all the merrier. It was estimated that about 1,000 people were present, coming from all parts of the county and some from Stearns County.

Shortly before 4 a.m. this Thursday morning the citizens were awakened by the clang, clang of the fire bell. Upon arriving at the fire station, it was learned that there had been no fire, but that A.Q. Lundman had been the victim of holdups and his jewelry store robbed of valuable jewelry to the extent of nearly $3,000.
Mr. Lundman was alone and was awakened at about 2 a.m. by someone rapping on the door. After several raps, Mr. Lundman inquired as to what was wanted. The answer came that it was the night operator with a night telegram for him. When he let the men in, he was immediately covered with guns and was ordered to keep still and open the safe. The thieves then tied Mr. Lundman up and put him in a closet. Mr. Lundman carried about $2,000 in burglar insurance, which will help some to cover the loss.

Milton Sand of the U.S. Merchant Marine, stationed in near the Panama Canal, writes, "You can’t appreciate a real rain until you have visited Panama. What you’d call a cloud burst in Cokato is just a light dew down here. We had a light earthquake and our bunks did a jitter-bug. No damage."
