– School opens in the Annandale School District on Tuesday, Sept. 2.   – Preschool open houses were planned at the Community Education Center for Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 2 and 3. Call 274-3058 for more information.  – The Annandale Improvement Club will hold its September meeting at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Reichel’s Event Center The program, "Kurdestan Yesterday and Today," will be given by Gail Fuad. The donation will be money for calling cards for people in the armed services.  – A tailgate party to kick off the opening of the Annandale High School Cardinal football season will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at the Marketplace in Ananndale. There will be free hot dogs and pop, and the AHS cheerleaders and band will be on hand. See the Marketplace ad on page 8B for more information.  – The Annandale Farmers Market will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 6, in the city hall parking area (Cedar Street). Everyone is welcome. The market will be held each Saturday morning through Oct. 11.  – The St. Ignatius Catholic Church Fall Festival will be held beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at the church grounds in Annandale. Planned activities include a polka mass, pork chop dinner, bingo, silent auction, children’s game, bake sale and more. See the ad on page 10 for more information.  – The 17th annual Haiti Harvest Festival Benefit will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, at the corner of Highway 55 and County Road 8 in Maple Lake. Activities will include the sale of fresh produce, delicious barbecued pork and beef lunch from local farms, old-time music and a 1 p.m. program featuring Yvette Papillon, a Haitian missionary for more than 30 years. For information call 963-3690.   – Annandale United Methodist Church invites the community to a special worship service at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7. Former member Lisa Wasmund Ruffenach will be singing, doing skits, and will have a puppet presentation. Wasmund grew up in the church, was confirmed in the church and knows many people in this community. Following the worship service, all are invited to stay for a light lunch and time to visit with her and her family. All are welcome.  – Annandale Health and Community Services (Annandale Care Center) will hold an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, at the care center. A brief ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held to commemorate a new dining area, kitchen, memory care cottages and more. See the ad in this Advocate for more information.  – The Central Minnesota Heart Center at St. Cloud Hospital is offering an outpatient nicotine dependence program beginning Tuesday, Sept. 9. This is a five-week program. Call 320-251-2700, ext. 57448, for the location and more information.  – Minnesota Pioneer Park’s annual meeting and monthly potluck will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9. Also, see the Groups section on page 7B.  – The Wellness on Wheels van will be at the Marketplace in Annandale from 2 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11. The Wright County Human Services van provides a number of health services and screenings at no or reduced costs, including immunizations. It will be at Roger’s BP station in Maple Lake on Tuesday, Sept. 23. The van will not be in Clearwater this month.  – A 60-Plus and Healthy Clinic will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the Senior Dining Site in Annandale City Hall. Footcare will be provided for seniors, and although there is a small fee, no one will be turned away. Also, other health checks and screenings will be provided if time allows. The service is provided by Wright County Public Health, 763-682-3667. There will be no clinic in Maple Lake or Clearwater this month.  – The 12th annual St. Cloud Job Fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the St. Cloud Civic Center. The event is sponsored by the Minnesota Workforce Center and corporate partners.  – The third annual Heart of the Lakes Ducks Unlimited Fall Banquet will be held beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the Maple Lake Legion. There will be a pork chop feed and many other activities. See the ad in this Advocate for ticket information.  – "Grieving the Loss of a Loved One," sponsored by the St. John’s Lutheran Church, ELCA, will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the church on Harrison Street in Annandale. Joy Carlson will be the facilitator. She may be contacted with any questions or for directions, 320-266-1086. The evening will include fellowship and snacks. All denominations are welcome. There is no charge.   – The Annandale Area Friends of the Library will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the Annandale Area Public Library. The agenda will include recap of the July Book Sale, Sept. 24, Mike Lynch program and plan for the 2009 Author Dinner. Everyone is invited to attend and join the Friends. For information contact Bonnie Gutzwiller 236-6045.  – The next Fare For All food distribution will be from 10:30 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Sept. 20, at Annandale City Hall. Volunteers may help from 9 a.m. to noon. Fare For All is a monthly program that provides groceries to anyone for a reduced price. For more information contact Sandy Holthaus at 236-5604. The October distribution is Saturday, Oct. 18.  – Story time at the Annandale Area Public Library is at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20. This free event is especially appropriate for pre-school-aged children and their parents.  – The Annandale-Maple Lake High School Hockey Booster Club is having a golf tournament on Saturday, Sept. 20, at Albion Ridges Golf Course. There will be a 8 a.m. shotgun start. Money raised will assist the club in covering the costs of the high school hockey program for the Annandale and Maple Lake skaters. Call 612-709-4008 with questions or information on how to sign up.  – Rich’s Bar and Grill, Annandale, will hold its second annual bike (motorcycle) run for cancer patients on Saturday, Sept. 20. Sign-up is at 11 a.m. with the run beginning at noon. Other activities include prize drawings, a raffle and silent auction. Money raised will go to help Jessica Schmidt and Robert Schroeder. Schmidt, who is 9-years-old, is suffering from a rare form of cancer. She has had two surgeries recently and has been a patient at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and at Minneapolis Children’s Hospital. Schroeder is suffering from colon cancer, but now has cancer in other areas, including liver, stomach and back. He has had surgeries and is undergoing chemotherapy. Also, see Rich’s ad in the Advocate.  – The Annandale Evangelical Free Church will host a Happy Trails Chuckwagon Cook’n’ Class and Dinner from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at the church just east of Annandale. Participants will learn how to cook western chuckwagon style then after dinner enjoy some tall tales and some bluegrass Gospel music. Everyone is invited. There is a small charge. Tickets are available at the church or call 274-8951.
