Nov. 13, 1924

Joe Lauzer, a farmer southwest of here, injured his arm in a corn shredder. The injuries are so severe that his arm had to be amputated.

On Saturday morning Marvin Eugene, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Seutter, passed away. Rev. Lueck conducted the funeral services at the house.

After nightfall the automobiles driven by deputy sheriff Wood and Herman Barbknecht of Montrose collided head on. The Barbknecht car was said to have poor lights. Deputy sheriff Wood’s car is completely wrecked.

On Wednesday the Ladies of the M.E. Church will host a bazaar and supper in the old schoolhouse. The sale will open at 2:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend the program.

The barn, corn crib and chicken coop on the Frank Filipek farm was destroyed by a fire. The origin of the fire is unknown. Eighteen tons of hay and 50 chickens were all lost in the fire. Mr. Filipek will quit farming because of the fire.

Nov. 9, 1944

President Roosevelt is re-elected as President of the United States for a fourth term with 334 electoral votes in 30 states. Minnesota gave him the majority by 51,000.

On Friday afternoon Harry Engle broke his nose and was cut on the forehead while he was shredding corn on the Fred Mielke farm. A straw fork got caught in the belt of the machine and it flew around, striking Harry in the face and knocking him unconscious.

Station agent Johnson and George Tomte, who carries the mail, came upon a man who had broken into the depot warehouse and attempted a mail robbery at the Cokato Depot.

Congress has passed a resolution designating the fourth Thursday of November, Nov. 23 this year, as Thanksgiving Day.

John W. Olson is spending his leave at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jalmer Olson of French Lake. John Olson has completed his boot training in Farragut, Idaho.

On Nov. 10 at 8:15 p.m. the Annandale High School junior class will present "Miss Jimmy," a farce in three acts, directed by Miss Betty J. Crosby. All seats will be 40 cents, including tax.

Nov. 9, 1961

First- and second-grade students are working on their lessons at the new elementary school. Grades three and four will be moving in on Monday. According to Supt. Anderson, some detail work needs to be completed, but there is such a high need for classrooms that the move is necessary.

The business transaction between Dennis Klemz and Ronnie Peterson has closed. Peterson is now the new owner of the Mobil Service station on Highway 55 in Annandale. He will be assisted by his father, Arnold Peterson, who has worked as an auto mechanic for many years. For the past three years, Klemz operated the station. He now plans to enter the real estate business.

The Wright Theatre in Maple Lake presents the movie "The Guns of Navarone," beginning Nov. 9 to 14. Gregory Peck, David Niven and Anthony Quinn all star in this adventure film.

On Nov. 13, a Court of Honor for 28 Boy Scouts of Annandale will be held in the school cafeteria. During the evening, the boys will be given awards and recognition.

The Red Owl has a roundup of values. Get a tender, juicy round steak for 79 cents per pound. Customers can get 10 grapefruits for 39 cents. Four jars of 12-ounce jars of Red Owl Preserves are only one dollar.

Nov. 14, 1990

Change seemed to be the predominate factor throughout the state and in local elections, but Wright County voters did not follow the trend. The election unseated incumbents from a close governor’s race down to the last seat on the Annandale City Council. Voters turned out in record numbers around the state Tuesday, Nov. 6. Votes were cast by 850 voters in Annandale, doubling the numbers in the primaries. Daryl Gunnarson was elected as the mayor of Annandale, with 459 votes for 54 percent of the total vote.

The Wright County Sheriff’s Office recently received 50 teddy bears that were donated by the American Bikers for Awareness Training and Education Lake Chapter of Minnesota. The bears will be used by deputies to help young victims of crime and violence though a traumatic incident in their lives. The deputies will give the child a teddy bear at the time of the incident for the child to keep.

Annandale school closing notices are to be broadcast on radio. Closings because of bad weather or other emergencies will be announced over three radio stations. Generally, school will be in session if buses are able to make routes in relative safety. Whenever parents disagree with a decision to keep school open, they do have a right to keep their children at home.
