Citywide sale set for Saturday

It’ll be the same Annandale All-City Garage Sale as always on Saturday, May 1, only without the red tape.   The annual sale of preowned stuff, some of it unrecognized treasure waiting to be discovered, will start at 8 a.m. in garages, driveways and yards all over the city.   The difference in the Annandale Area Chamber of Commerce event this year is that there’s no requirement to sign up and pay a fee.   "There’s still going to be a ton of sales, in the normal places," garage sale chairwoman Marlene Young said.   "If you want to have a sale, have a sale. We’ll get the people in there," she said.   According to Young, Annandale is following the lead of its neighbors, Maple Lake and Kimball, whose citywide garage sales no longer require a sign-up.   The problem is that some people had sales but didn’t sign up or pay the fee. "It’s not fair to those who did."   So she proposed cutting that out, and the chamber agreed.   "Now it’s fair to all," Young said.   Ads for the citywide sale – though not sale-by-sale notices as in the past – are appearing in the Advocate and area newspapers, and signs have been posted along Highway 55 in Annandale. "So it will be widely advertised."   At least 72 sales were held last year, and Young said she’s hoping there’ll be more this year.   Free signs are available at Annandale Video & Tanning, Annandale Eye Clinic and AM Boutique.
