Frozen but fun

Area anglers turned out in large numbers for the 32nd annual South Haven Sportsman’s Club fishing contest on Lake Francis on Saturday, Feb. 14. Despite a high temperature of just 5 degrees and a brisk wind that made for a chilly afternoon on the lake, those in attendance seemed to be enjoying themselves. Many took shelter from the wind in vehicles or ice houses. Here, Butch Lindgren of Minneapolis, who owns a cabin on the lake, clears the ice from the top of his fishing hole. Dan Veaderko had the largest catch through the first hour of the competition with a northern weighing 1 pound, 12 ounces and measuring 20.5 inches long.
