
Michael S. Nelson, age 81, of Annandale, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023, at St. Therese of New Hope. Rite of Committal was held Monday, Oct. 2, at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls. Michael Scott John Nelson was born May 11, 1942, in St. Paul. He was adopted and raised by Henry and Georgiana (Scott) Nelson. He graduated from De La Salle High School in Minneapolis. Michael served his country in the U.S. Army as a Radio Operator during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, he earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Minnesota. He lived in South Dakota, where he worked as a reporter. He then lived in southern California, working for NBC Universal Studios as a tour guide. He then moved back to Minnesota to care for family. While in Minnesota, he worked as a security guard for Per Mar Security, as a historic interpretor at Ft. Snelling in St. Paul and Historic Murphy’s Landing in Shakopee, and as an insurance agent for Combined Insurance. Michael was a former member of the Chi Phi Fraternity and St. Ignatius Catholic Church. He is survived by his neices and nephew, Susan (Calvin) Lehna of Apple Valley, Sally (Rick) Goodsell of Eagan, Missy Myers of Avon, South Dakota, and Scott Thesenga of Lonsdale; and many great-neices, great-nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Nelson and Georgiana “Scotty” Nelson; an infant sister; and sister, Mariann Scott.
