Joan Burd, 91, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2025.She was born on July 22, 1933 in Fargo, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Josie and Ben Horvick.
Joan is survived by her three children, David Burd of Annandale, Minnesota, Susan (Dan) Winderl of Plymouth, Minnesota, and Jane Burd of St. Paul, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, Sarah (Tim), Ben and Rachel Fohrman, Claire, Ellen (Sheridan), Tom Winderl, Josie and Nels Burd; and her sister, Sharon Ingle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Burd; and brother, Paul.
Joan graduated from Moorhead High School in 1951 and graduated from St. Olaf College in 1955. She taught first grade in Deephaven and Moorhead and later was a Realtor for Edina Realty. She married William Burd in 1958 and they lived in Moorhead all their married life until he died on Oct. 3, 1996.
At the time of her death she lived in Plymouth, Minnesota.
Mom loved to learn about everyone’s story, whether it was the grocery clerk, a new person at church, her nurse … did not matter who it was and she loved and was loved by the lives she touched.
We will miss you mom.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, July 19, from 1-3 p.m. at Fair Hills Resort, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.
