Daniel “Dan” Carlson, age 83, of Annandale, died Sunday, March 16, 2025, at the Annandale Care Center surrounded by the love he so richly gave to his family.

Memorial Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 1, 2025, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Annandale with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Daniel Leonard Carlson was born on July 5, 1941, in Annandale to Leonard and Bernice (Cochran) Carlson. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church solidifying his faith, as a lifetime member. He was raised in Annandale along with his nine siblings and was a 1959 graduate of Annandale High School. He married his devoted wife, Marlys Weise, on February 14, 1959, at St. John’s Lutheran Church during their senior year of high school, forging a partnership that would last a lifetime and serve as a shining example of love and commitment.

Throughout his working years, Dan worked in several roles that highlighted his strong work ethic. From his early days at the Annandale State Bank and the Annandale Police Department to managing the Eastview Mobile Home Park and being a gas station attendant. His longtime career was as the owner and operator of Carlson Flooring, where he poured his passion and craftsmanship into every project.

Dan participated actively in local organizations, including the Annandale Lions and the Annandale Snowmobile Club. Known affectionately by his family as a “jack of all trades, master of none,” he could often be found racing snowmobile, supporting his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at their sporting events, or enjoying the great outdoors through hunting and fishing. His love for gardening and the occasional trip to the casino usually brought him joy.

Dan’s life was a remarkable journey filled with rich experiences, joyful moments, invaluable connections, and unwavering support of family and friends. His spirit was one of kindness, generosity, and a zest for life.

Dan is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marlys Carlson; children, Vicky (Jerry) Katka of Annandale, Mike (Kari) Carlson of Deer River, and Pam Nolan of Annandale; grandchildren, Lynn (Rick) Seagraves, Wendy (Ryan) Legarrie, Heidi (John Mark) Halstead, Alyssa (Adam) Tupman, Brett (Spencer) Carlson, and Brian Nolan; great-grandchildren, Bree, Avery and Bryce Seagraves, Logan Legarrie, Kennedy Halstead, Rylynn, Gentry and Layton Tupman, Kinsley and Chloe Carlson, and Noah Tyson; sisters and brother, Mary Mattson of Richvale, California, Kathy Kittelson of Minneapolis, Bob Carlson of Annandale, Glenda (Dean) Thurk of Annandale, and Laurie Carlson (Ivan Mihovilovic) of Miami, Florida; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joy Carlson, Sharon and Lester Triplett, Bonnie and Craig Picken, Laine Freiberg, Jamie, Janelle, and Fred Weise; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Bernice Carlson; great-grandchild, Kimburly Loycano; son-in-law, James Nolan; siblings, Patricia, Gordy, Dave and Jerry Carlson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lois and Sharon Carlson, Viann and Lester Fitch, Geraldine and Leroy Skow.

Dan’s grandchildren will serve as urn bearers. Rev. Todd Nelsen will officiate, and Pat Nelsen and Nancy Berg will provide music for the service. Arrangements entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial and Cremation Services of Annandale.
