Stephen Kenneth Zimmer was born on June 7, 1946, in Chicago, Ill., to Stephen and Elizabeth (Markette) Zimmer. Steve’s journey took him from the bustling streets of the Windy City to the tranquil shores of Lake Augusta in Annandale, Minn., where he spent his later years enjoying the simple pleasures of life.
Steve grew up in Chicago before moving to Cumberland, Wisc., in the ninth grade, where he embraced the beauty of the outdoors and cultivated a lifelong love for nature. After graduating from Cumberland High School in 1965, he sought new adventures in the Twin Cities, where he met the love of his life, Nancy Shoblom. Their union, celebrated at Spring Garden Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls on February 20, 1971, was the foundation for a beautiful family, and together they created countless cherished memories.
Steve’s career was marked by years of hard work and dedication. He served as a manager at Control Data in Bloomington prior to working as an appliance salesperson in Monticello, a brief stint in real estate, at a lumber mill, and Hutchinson Technology. Upon retirement, Steve found fulfillment working at Menards, where his love for craftsmanship felt less like a job and more like a hobby.
A devoted father and grandfather, Steve found great joy in attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and spending quality time with family. He nurtured his hands-on spirit through hobbies such as boating, fishing, camping, and carpentry. A true handyman at heart, Steve dedicated himself to creating and fixing, always eager to lend a helping hand to family and friends.
Steve is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy of Annandale; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Ken Mickett of Prior Lake; grandchildren, Sydney and Benjamin Mickett; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty (Lyle) Chapin of Blaine; and other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elverna Anderson; brothers-in-law, Gordon Anderson and Richard Glynn; and sister-in-law, Doris Glynn.
