
It is with sad hearts we share that Marlys Jeanne Woelfel, age 74, of Monticello, Minn., passed away on May 7, 2025, at St. Cloud Hospital due to complications from COPD and dementia.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church with Fr. John Meyer as the Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Annandale with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Marlys.
Marlys Jeanne Schnichels was born on June 23, 1950, in Minneapolis, Minn., to George and Helen Schnichels. Marlys grew up in St. Paul, Minn., before the family moved to South Haven, Minn., in 1963. Marlys was a 1968 graduate of Annandale High School. Marlys was united in marriage with Terry Woelfel on May 3, 1969, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Bird Island, Minn. The couple moved to the Annandale area in 1970, where they raised their family. After a short stint at the snowbird life in Florida, Marlys and Terry moved back to Minnesota, settling in Monticello for the last five years.
Marlys was active in St. Ignatius Catholic Church as a catechism teacher and eucharistic minister. She enjoyed bowling and camping and was a business owner and hair stylist in the Annandale community for over 30 years.
She is survived by her husband, Terry Woelfel; daughters, Shelly Woelfel, Dawn McCabe, and Kim (Brian) Stakston; son, Pat (Julie) Woelfel; grandchildren, Sarah Woelfel, Lauren Woelfel, Joe McCabe, Kate Woelfel, Jonny McCabe, Ben Stakston, and Emma Stakston; and sisters, Eleanor (Larry) Woelfel, Diane Schwier, Mary Ellen (Brad) Nelson, and Judy (Tom) Barrett. Marlys was preceded in death by her sister Marlene Lakie; brothers George Schnichels and Pete Schnichels; father George Schnichels; and mother Helen Schnichels.
Rick Lakie, Steve Woelfel, Bob Woelfel, Greg Woelfel, Chris Woelfel, and Jeff Barrett will serve as casket bearers. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial and Cremation Services of Annandale.
