Helen M. Kangas

Helen M. Kangas, 96 of Annandale, died Saturday, June 27, 2015 at the Annandale Care Center.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Annandale with Rev. Tom Heyd officiating. Committal services will be 10:35 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.

She is survived by her children Richard Kangas of Glenwood, Karen (David) Smith of Burnsville, John (Karen) Kangas of St. Charles, Ill., and Steven (Lani) Kangas of Woodbury; grandchildren Jessica, Michael, Jack and Joseph Kangas.

She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Elvira Leinonen; husband Arthur Kangas; sisters Hannah Pertela, Hazel Brown, Beatrice Lehtola and Mary Miller; and brothers Walter, Howard and Arnold Leinonen.

Helen Myrtle Kangas was born Feb. 18, 1919 in Annandale to Charles and Elvira (Levine) Leinonen. She grew up in French Lake. On Oct. 7, 1943, Helen was united in marriage to Arthur Kangas in Minneapolis. They resided in Minneapolis prior to moving to their Lake John home near Annandale. Helen was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She worked for many years for Annandale High School in the kitchen. She was a caregiver not only to her family, but to many friends as well. Helen enjoyed cooking, baking, her dogs and caring for others.
