Letter: Clean your boat of invasives

With the Fourth of July holiday upons us, we have been thinking about the impact the extra boat traffic could have on the beautiful lakes in the Annandale area long term. We hope that those who decide to bring their boats out to the lake for the day are aware of that they must clean the boat and trailers they are wanting to launch.

If you have been on an infested lake or river, you must insure that there are no aquatic invasive species (AIS) attached, in particular, zebra mussels. Wright County and the DNR have significantly stepped up monitoring at public landings so boats and trailers will be inspected before allowing to launch. This is being done in hopes of preventing an infestation that would permanently harm the lakes.

Will you be responsible and only launch at the public launch, pull your drain plug and clean your boat and trailer? (J & J Marine now has a certified decontamination station and will happily clean your boat.)

Will you be respectful of private property and refrain from launching there? Will you be respectful of other boaters and the people who live on the lake you are boating on? We hope that you do, so that future generations will be able to enjoy these beautiful waters.

Have a happy and safe 4th of July from the GLSA.
