The Annandale Cardinals boys basketball team held off the Rockford Rockets 50-46 Wednesday night, March 2, to advance to the Section 5-2A championship on Friday, March 4.
AJ Hinz made a pair of critical free throws with 5.7 second left to play, and Brock Fobbe added two more withe less than two seconds to play to secure the win.
The Cards will play the winner of the Breck-Brooklyn Center game at 7:45 p.m. at Hallenbeck Hall, St. Cloud, on Friday.
On Wednesday night, Rockford led 15-8 in the first half, but the Cards came back to tie the game at 21 at the half.
Annandale led all the way in the second half, but Rockford kept the game to within six points and cut it to three with under two minutes to play. Still, the Cards kept their poise and took home their fourth straight sub-section championship.
