John (Jose) Joseph Helget, passed away peacefully at home, Jan. 28th, 2022, at the age of 72. John was born on April 28, 1949, in St. Cloud, MN, to Edward Paul Sr. and Lorraine Johanna (Seefeldt) Helget of Clearwater, MN. He attended Clearwater School through eighth grade and Tech High School. John was self-employed as a painter with Bob White in Annandale (1973-81). A member of Clearwater Volunteer Fire Department 20 years (1975-95) and Clearwater Sportsman’s Club. John was employed as a Mechanic for 31 plus years. (1982-2013). He enjoyed hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling and spending time at their Towering Pines in Lake of the Woods. John is survived by his wife Ruth (Lee) they shared 20 years together; daughters, Leslie Newman, Laura (Jeremy) Neu, Alisha (Brent) Schubbe, three granddaughters, two grandsons, nine great-grandchildren; Special Nephew Keith Helget; godchild Renee Wittrock; former wife Kitty Johansen and many other family and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, Lorraine and Edward Helget Sr.; brother, Edward Helget Jr.; stepmother, Virginia C. (Seefeldt); best friend, Tom Ness. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. John earned his medallions for 40 years of sobriety that he credited to the AA Program and his Higher Power. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5th, 2022, with Deacon Steve Yanish officiating. Visitation will be one hour before, masks are required, at Clearwater United Methodist Church, Clearwater, MN. A luncheon will follow. Ashes will be scattered at Lake of the Woods.
