A good showing at the art crawl

If you were downtown Annandale on Saturday, Aug. 25, you may have wondered why it was so hard to find a place to park.

"We had a great crowd," said Stephanie Salonek, owner of Fashion Fun Boutique and the Art Crawl coordinator. "I think our best yet. Everyone had fun and I received several comments on how much fun the event was from the spectators."

Besides the usual Annandale Farmers Market, it was also the day for the Annandale Art Crawl.

Twenty vendors were set up along main street selling their creations including art from a variety of media, hand-sewn items, handcrafted jewelry, as well as lotions and bar soaps.

It was a good year for the vendors.

"I had very positive feedback for the artists this year,"Salonek said "Sales were doubled if not tripled for a lot of the vendors."

Changes this year

Salonek made some changes to the event this year, which may have added to its success.

■ They changed to an earlier time, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m, to include the Farmers Market.

■ They closed Cedar and Chestnut streets, instead of having the vendors staggered up and down Oak Ave.

■ As a way to get people to visit all the booths they introduced the Passport to Art cards. All the artists had passport cards to hand out. When someone visited a booth the vendor would initial the passport.

Once their passport was initialed by each vendor, they turned it into for a drawing. they handed it in for a drawing. There were 17 items donated by the vendors for the drawing.

People’s choice award

People’s choice awards went to the following artists:

■ First prize: Sara Krippner – handmade children’s clothing

■ Second prize: Mike Orr – metal sculptures

■ Third prize: Ben and Jessica Martin – metal-wood garden art and home decor

The Annandale Art Crawl is an Annandale Chamber of Commerce sponsored event.
